Mike's Plein Air Painting Wins Carmel Art Festival
5/19/2009 12:00:00 AM

Mike Bagdonas's plein air painting, "Foggy May Morning" was awarded an Honorable Mention in this years Carmel Art Festival's Plein Air Competition in May. This painting is 20" x 20" on masonite. Mike was particularly proud of this painting in that on this foggy morning along the California coast just south of Rocky Point and north of Big Sur, the fog kept intermittently obscuring the entire scene. Thanks to a strong thumb nail graphite sketch of the scene at the very beginning Mike continued to paint. Mike said, "Even at the end the fog seemed to take over the scene as though nature was telling me it was time to quit".

Jill Carver
Solo Show at the Wally Workman Gallery

I see this is already underway... Southwest Art has picked Jill Carver as an Artist to Watch for 2009, read the feature here. Originally from England, Jill Carver moved to Austin, Texas in 2002. Following a twelve-year career as a curatorial research assistant at the National Portrait Gallery in London she now paints full-time. Believing that one should 'grow where you are planted', she has been fast to establish herself here, already winning recognition and awards for her work in national juried shows. Jill works predominately on location – en plein air – and has been highly recognized in many competitions across the country

Painting in Glacier National Park

Photos from our recent painting trip to Glacier Park. These are courtesy of Morgan Samuel Price, a very fine artist friend who went on the trip with 21 of us artists from all over the country and Canada. First couple of days we had cold, snow, sleet and wind, but it started clearing as the week went on and we all got a lot of painting in. A lot of fun, great company and incredible scenery. Location: Glacier Park, Montana Created June 16

Painting in Glacier National Park Share Yesterday at 11:47pm What a great time we had painting up in Glacier. We did have snow but it made for wonderful painting. It was my first time painting there and I was hooked. I have included some of the plein air paintings from the trip. www.facebook.com/notes.php?subj=1028995227

You may be wondering why at the end of June I am publishing a notice on Michael Bagdonas winning the Carmel Art Festival... Because he'd buried the news.
